The Nordic Society for Veterinary Epidemiology (NOSOVE) is an informal organization with the vision of advancing veterinary epidemiology. The volunteering board aim to fulfill the vision by providing courses and opportunities to socialise and strengthen the network among post graduate students, researchers and others with an interest in epidemiology. Events are presented through the society network (blogspot).
NOSOVE started in 1988 as a collaboration between the Nordic countries Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, and has expanded to include the Baltic countries, but welcome members and participants from all countries.

NOSOVE is sponsoring the Annual Meeting of the European College of Veterinary Public Health held in Copenhagen October 6-8, 2014. NOSOVE sponsors the keynote speaker from ECDC in Stockholm, Celine Gossner, who will give a presentation entitled 'Indicator- and event-based surveillance for detection and assessment of emerging zoonotic infections'. Furthermore, NOSOVE helps the college by sponsoring part of the participation fees of the residents from Nordic countries.

Job description
As Assistant Professor your job is to do scientific research (approximately 60%) in addition to teaching (approximately 40%). Your research will focus on the population dynamics of infections in farm animal populations. You will develop and apply mathematical models to design infection experiments and field studies, and analyze the results of such models in order to provide a rationale for future intervention and prevention strategies, firmly based on mechanistic understanding. Cooperation with scientists from related disciplines (such as veterinary sciences, microbiology, immunology and epidemiology) is a crucial part of your task. You will teach subjects related to population dynamics of infections and statistics in the veterinary medicine curriculum as well as in the master Epidemiology. This challenging job requires integration of mathematics, epidemiology and statistics, as well as state-of-the art modeling expertise.
You will be a member of the chair Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases of the Department of Farm Animal Health (Prof Dr Arjan Stegeman). You will have the opportunity to build your own research group based on your solid track record of expertise, high quality publications, international collaboration and grant acquisition.
Specifically you will:
·         initiate, conduct, and supervise scientific research in the field of 'Population Dynamics of Infectious diseases';
·         write scientific papers in peer-reviewed international journals;
·         acquire external research funding;
·         supervise and coach MSc and PhD students;
·         create, expand and maintain an extensive network of scientific collaboration;
·         teach in the Veterinary Medicine curriculum and the MSc Epidemiology.

Qualifications
Requirements for this position are:
·         a strong curiosity-driven attitude with broad research interest and a healthy scientific ambition;
·         a PhD with a strong background in modeling infection dynamics;
·         outstanding research achievements and reputation as demonstrated by publication record and international visibility;
·         knowledge of current status and opportunities of research technology to study population dynamics of infections;
·         track record of successful acquisition of external funds;
·         excellent interpersonal, social and communicative skills;
·         experience in supervising PhD or MSc students;
·         teaching qualification (at Utrecht University or equivalent) or willingness to achieve this qualification in the near future.

Offer
We offer a full-time appointment for one year, with the possibility of an extension to tenure track. The salary is between € 3,037 (scale 10) and € 4,462 (scale 11) gross per month for a full-time appointment depending on education and experience.
